Nana Duffuor's Rainbow Girls: heist shot on first day
The short’s signature heist was filmed on the “very first day of production”, with the team able to afford only "two panes of glass" for the stunt.
Production brief
Nana Duffuor staged the film’s central heist on the "very first day of production", choosing to put the risky stunt up front despite a student budget. The sequence was realised practically: the team used C-stands to prop a smaller pane and framed a side-angle to sell the break.
Resources were tight—Duffuor says they could only afford "two panes of glass"—so the crew rehearsed and executed the shot in one go. The boutique interior came from Finding Labels consignment in Walnut Creek; the owner, Lynn Nice, hosted the shoot and supplied much of the wardrobe and props the production required.
The short, shot across the Bay Area, is now in feature development and has received early support from SFFilm’s Rainin Screenwriting Grant for screenplay work. Practical solutions on a shoestring helped the team turn an ambitious set piece into a reliable first-day win.
